Today is Tax Freedom Day in Albania!

Tax Freedom Day represents the taxpayers of a country facing their burden from the fiscal administration for the collection of fiscal obligations for the budget.
This day is the indicative date to know on which day of the year the burden on the state budget has been fulfilled or to show the taxpayers how many days they must work to pay their part of the tax obligations on account of the budget. After this day, the remaining income remains logically in the pocket of the business or individual, to pay individual, family, or business expenses.

This day shows all Albanians how much they had to work for their state’s budget and shows them that this period has lasted until the end of the first quarter of 2023. Fiscal Freedom Day falls on the sixth day of April 2023.
Tax freedom for the year 2023 in Albania is on the 96th day of the year, which falls on April 6.
After this period, the profits from work and capital belong to the individual and the business, since it is now considered that the budget has managed to introduce a part of the profits generated by work or capital into the budget from taxpayers in only 3 months, leaving space for three more quarters of the year for them to work for themselves. The day that the whole of Albania celebrates does not coincide with the day of fiscal freedom of each region, since the tax burden for Albania is calculated as the average of all the fiscal burdens of the country’s regions.

Compared to 2022, this year Tax Freedom in Albania has arrived 4 days later. Whereas, Fiscal Freedom Day in Kosovo 2023 was held on April 2, 2023.

Fiscal Freedom Day is calculated based on the ratio of tax revenues for the fiscal year to the gross domestic product.

Tax revenues include all types of taxes and duties, customs duties, as well as social and health insurance.

Total tax revenue is calculated as a percentage of GDP. The resulting ratio is multiplied by the number of days of the year. The resulting number is calculated as days of months starting from January 1. The number of divided days, according to the days of each subsequent month, stops until the day that is completed according to the month it corresponds to.

The day the calculation stops is considered Tax Freedom Day.

The meaning of this day is related to the fact that the taxpayers of the country on this day have closed their tax payment accounts and from this day of the year onwards they work for themselves, without having any tax obligations to the state.

Tax Freedom Day calculation for you!

Tax Freedom Day represents all taxpayers. For this reason, its calculation can be done for every individual who paid taxes during 2022.

But who could be your Tax Freedom Day in 2023?

Here’s an uncomplicated way to calculate it for each previous year.

If you have all the information, you need when you pay your taxes, the calculation is a simplified conclusion of actions.

First, add your total liabilities to the tax office to central taxes (for cases where you are registered as an activity) as well as local taxes and fees. In the case of an individual who is not registered with the tax office, but has income from various sources, all the taxes and duties you pay for the services you are required to pay, as well as those withheld (e.g. eg salary tax, interest tax, municipal taxes, etc. similar).

Second, on the other hand, record and calculate the gross income you received during the past year.

The ratio between all the total taxes and fees paid and all your gross income results in a number. This number is the last day of the year related to the tax burden. After this date that coincides on the calendar with a day of the months of the year is considered your Tax Freedom Day.
