Agricultural and foreign trade statistics data, 2020

In reviewing the volume balance of Albanian agricultural products and inflows and outflows with trading partner countries for 2020, it appears that:

1. The largest volume of all domestic agricultural production is held by vegetables (greens)[1] with 1.61 million tons per year.

The share of domestic vegetable production is 15% of total agricultural products.

If we make the balance of their movement, in order to look at what remains available for the consumption of citizens, as well as for their processing and export it is seen that:

– 1.61 million tons are produced

– 0.04 million tons are imported

– 0.15 million tons are exported

– 1.5 million tons remain for consumption for citizens and processing of canned vegetables for domestic consumption and export.

2. The volume of products from orchards [2] holds the second place in all domestic agricultural production with 669 thousand tons per year.

The share of local orchard products is 6% of total agricultural products.

If we make the balance of their movement, in order to look at what remains available for the consumption of citizens, as well as for their processing and export, it is seen that:

– 669 thousand tons are produced

– 83 thousand tons are imported

– 75 thousand tons are exported

– 677 thousand tons remain for consumption for citizens and processing of canned vegetables for domestic consumption and export.

3. The volume of cereal products[3] holds the third place in all domestic agricultural production with 612 thousand tons per year, where this group of products is dominated by wheat with 233 thousand tons per year and corn with 399 thousand tons per year.

The share of domestic cereal products is 5.8% of total agricultural products. It should be mentioned in this group that fodder products are not included[4], which hold a weight of 68.6% of total agricultural products.

If we make the balance of their movement, in order to look at what remains available for the consumption of citizens, as well as for their processing and export, it is seen that:

– 613 thousand tons are produced

– 365 thousand tons are imported

– exported 0.5 thousand tons

– 977 thousand tons remain for consumption for citizens and processing of canned vegetables for domestic consumption and export.

Below the data are presented in summary form to understand only from the numbers the trend of the agricultural sector, according to the statistics of 2020.

What stands out in this presentation is the volume of stock grains that remain for consumption and for dough products for export. From the balance of this food group, it can be seen that approximately up to 1 million tons are what the Albanian market needs for its various needs.

From all this presentation of the main products and influencing the quality of food consumption do not include livestock products and poultry, fisheries and forestry products.
