It discusses the main regulatory objectives and the information needs derived from\u00a0them.<\/p>\n<p>Chapter 2 presents three case studies illustrating some of the typical informational\u00a0 problems faced\u00a0by\u00a0regulators\u00a0all over\u00a0the world.<\/p>\n<p>Chapters 3 and 4 cover the main elements of standard management information\u00a0systems and statutory and cost accounting. The objective is to introduce the main\u00a0accounting principles and concepts for those who are not familiar with them. Those\u00a0who have a working understanding of these topics can skip these chapters without\u00a0losing the thread of the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Chapter 5 presents the main elements of regulatory accounting, stressing similarities\u00a0to\u00a0and differences\u00a0with\u00a0statutory\u00a0and cost\u00a0accounting\u00a0principles.<\/p>\n<p>Chapter\u00a06\u00a0covers\u00a0in some detail four of\u00a0the main elements of\u00a0regulatory\u00a0accounting:\u00a0 separation\u00a0of\u00a0activities,\u00a0the regulatory\u00a0asset base,\u00a0depreciation\u00a0policies of\u00a0the\u00a0 regulatory\u00a0asset\u00a0base,\u00a0and transactions\u00a0with\u00a0related\u00a0parties.<\/p>\n<p>Chapter\u00a07 presents\u00a0an outline of\u00a0regulatory\u00a0accounting\u00a0guidelines.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This volume draws on the knowledge of many regulators and utilities analysts around the world.
