It depends on <strong>who your client is and where they are located<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When VAT is NOT charged (0% VAT)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you sell services to a <strong>foreign company<\/strong> (outside Albania), you do <strong>not charge VAT<\/strong> on your invoice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This is called a <strong>\u201cservice export.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Examples: design, programming, translation, advertising, etc., provided to a business in Germany, the US, or elsewhere.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your invoice should state:<br><strong>&#8220;Service provided to a foreign client \u2013 VAT 0%&#8221;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When VAT MUST be charged (20% VAT)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you sell a service to an <strong>individual outside Albania<\/strong> (not a business), then <strong>VAT applies<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The law says that for individual clients, the <strong>place of supply is where the provider is located<\/strong>, i.e., <strong>in Albania \u2192 VAT 20%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What documents are needed to prove it\u2019s a service export?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>VAT-free invoice with the correct description<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proof that the client is a foreign business (e.g., tax ID, business registration)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Payment received from abroad (bank transfer, PayPal, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contract or written communication showing the service agreement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Simplified rule to remember<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><td><strong>Your Client<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Location<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>VAT?<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Business<\/td><td>Outside Albania<\/td><td>\u274c No \u2013 0% VAT<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Individual (non-business)<\/td><td>Outside Albania<\/td><td>\u2705 Yes \u2013 20% VAT<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Any Client<\/td><td>Inside Albania<\/td><td>\u2705 Yes \u2013 20% VAT<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re a <strong>freelancer<\/strong> or provide <strong>digital services<\/strong> to companies abroad, you are considered part of the <strong>\u201cexport of services\u201d<\/strong> and should <strong>not charge VAT<\/strong>, but you must keep the proper documentation to support this.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Albania, when you sell a service, your invoice may or may not include VAT (Value Added Tax).
