Returning to a society where values form the foundation requires a deep transformation across three main pillars: <strong>politics, the economy, and social norms.<\/strong> This process is long, complex, and demands the engagement of all\u2014<strong>from government and institutions to ordinary citizens.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;The Politics We Want&#8221; \u2013 Beyond Corruption and Clientelism<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Politics is the heart of any functioning state, but in Albania, it is often perceived as a domain dominated by personal gain over the public good. A clear example is the awarding of public contracts to companies tied to politically powerful individuals, often at the expense of quality and societal benefit. To restore politics as a service to the people, <strong>the cycle of corruption and clientelism must be broken<\/strong>, a cycle that has defined the system for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Electoral reform<\/strong> is a key step on this path. A fair and transparent electoral system would ensure that political representatives are selected on the basis of <strong>merit<\/strong> rather than manipulation. Moreover, a sustained and forceful fight against corruption, backed by <strong>independent and transparent institutions<\/strong>, would help rebuild citizens\u2019 trust in the state. For example, the success of a <strong>special anti-corruption task force<\/strong> that prosecutes high-level officials for abuse of power could become a turning point, complementing the ongoing work of SPAK (Special Anti-Corruption Structure).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;The Economy We Want&#8221; \u2013 Toward Sustainable Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While political change is vital, a sustainable economy is the backbone that supports it. Albania currently faces challenges such as <strong>high informality, lack of economic diversification, and mass emigration of its workforce<\/strong>. These problems require a strategic approach to build a modern and inclusive economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Formalizing the economy and implementing fiscal reforms<\/strong> are essential for expanding the revenue base and establishing a fair taxation system. A practical example would be offering <strong>fiscal incentives to new businesses focused on technology and innovation<\/strong>, as Estonia has successfully done in its journey as a \u201cdigital state.\u201d Supporting <strong>small and medium enterprises<\/strong>, investing in <strong>sustainable agriculture and tourism<\/strong>, would foster an economy that promotes not only economic growth but also citizen well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;The Social Norms We Want&#8221; \u2013 Cultural and Mindset Change<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Transforming <strong>social norms<\/strong> is the third\u2014and perhaps the most difficult\u2014pillar of change. Building a values-based society requires <strong>changing a mentality<\/strong> that has long upheld a culture of nepotism and indifference. This transformation begins with <strong>education<\/strong>, not just academic learning, but also moral and civic education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Introducing ethics and civic education into school curricula<\/strong>, promoting <strong>inspiring stories from the diaspora<\/strong>, and creating <strong>spaces where meritocracy prevails<\/strong> are concrete steps toward shaping a new cultural model. <strong>Civil society and the media<\/strong> have a crucial role in this process by promoting positive values and challenging harmful practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Albania We Want \u2013 A Journey aAcross Generations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Transforming Albania into a country of values is a <strong>long journey that requires dedication and patience<\/strong>. Early results may begin to appear within a decade if serious reforms in education, justice, and the economy are initiated now. However, the consolidation of a value-based society may take <strong>an entire generation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>culture of impunity<\/strong>, <strong>mass emigration<\/strong>, and <strong>lack of trust in institutions<\/strong> are major obstacles that must be overcome through a <strong>coordinated and inclusive approach<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ultimately, <strong>Albania\u2019s return to values is not an impossible mission<\/strong>.<br>This is a challenge for <strong>everyone<\/strong>.<br>A challenge that calls for <strong>collaboration, vision, and above all, belief that the future can be brighter<\/strong>.<br>Only then can Albania truly hope to become a country where <strong>values are the foundation of every decision and action<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Albania of values\u2014one that embodies honesty, justice, solidarity, and culture\u2014feels like a distant dream for many citizens today.
